The inspiration behind my stories
The inspiration behind The Little Magpie Series comes from my own family and the experiences we have been through together.
The very first story was inspired by a time when someone I love became very poorly. I began thinking about how illness and difficult changes must look through a child's eyes. When a parent suddenly can't do all the things they normally do and life feels different.
That became the heart of Jakey and his family.
Many of the characters are also inspired by the people I love, with little pieces of their personalities finding their way into the stories. That is why these books are so personal to me.
I hope The Little Magpie Series gives children stories they can enjoy, but also gives families a gentle way to begin conversations that aren't always easy to have.
Because sometimes we can't change the storm, but we can make sure nobody has to fly through it alone.
Bringing dreams to life
What started as an idea inspired by my own family has slowly grown into something I could never have imagined.
Seeing The Little Magpie Series come to life has been incredibly special. From writing those first words and creating Jakey and his family, to holding a finished book in my hands and now beginning to turn the characters into toys and merchandise, every little step feels like another part of the dream becoming real.
There are still so many ideas, stories and adventures waiting in the wings, and I am incredibly excited to see where this journey takes us.
Sometimes the biggest dreams really do begin with the smallest wings. 💜
Our message: Little wings, big hearts
The most important message I want families to take away is that even when life feels difficult or uncertain, we don't have to fly through it alone. The Little Magpie Series is about love, family, courage and finding hope in the little things. I want children to understand that it's okay to feel worried, tired or different, and that being brave doesn't always mean being strong, sometimes it's resting, asking for help, trying again, or simply being there for someone you love.
Our future: Growing with you
My dream is for The Little Magpie Series to grow into much more than just a collection of books. I want to build a world that children can step into, where they can read Jakey's stories, cuddle their own Little Magpie character, colour, play and feel connected to the characters they have grown to love. I would love it to become a little world that children and families recognise, love and grow up with. I have lots more stories planned for Jakey and his family, following everyday childhood experiences as well as some of the more difficult moments families can face. I’d also love to introduce new characters and allow Jakey’s world to grow alongside the children reading the books.
